Plastics are increasing used in manufacturing medical devices due to their non-toxic nature, ease of processing into variety of shapes, colourability, transparency, sterilisability etc. in this study low density polyethylene was mixed with 10,20,30,40,50% by wt. of barium sulphate. mixing was done in a twin screw extruder at 140 degree c.the granules made by twin screw extruder were moulded into specimens for testing, by injection moulding at 150 degree c. the mechanical properties and x-ray opacity increased with the increase in barium sulphate content. sem images showed good dispersion of the filler in the matrix.
