Voice And Gesture Controlled Wheelchair For Physically Handicapped Persons

Powered wheelchairs with the standard joystick interface are unable to control by many people. a voice and gesture controlled wheelchair can provide easy access for physical disabled person who cannot control their movements especially the hands. the powered wheelchair depends on the motor control and drive system which consists of voice recognition module, gesture sensor and a microcontroller (arduino). once the voice recognition system recognizes the voice commands in comparison to the pre-stored memory or recognizing the gestures of the user, the respective coded digital signals would be sent to microprocessor which then controls the wheelchair accordingly. the project designed here is a microcontroller interfaced with voice recognition module to recognize the words and gesture sensor to recognize the gestures of the user. the voice recognition module on program mode stores the word string of maximum 2 sec length in its memory device likewise it can store maximum of 25 words. the voice module is connected with a local microphone to accept direct voice. the selector switch can select the mode either from local to wireless. the word strings are also field programmable by the user. the voice processor output is a digital id for the particular word string and that is feed to a microcontroller (arduino) and decoded to control the devices connected to the microcontroller through the specific relay drivers. this is an embedded system designed to process voice and recognize the word string and decode the words to perform the action. the voice communication to the processor can be directly fed using a mic. the gesture sensor recognizes the gestures made by the user and compares it with the pre-stored gesture database and moves the wheelchair accordingly
