Smart Nest Management System For Small Scale Business In Rural Areas
Project Description :

The smart nest/ nest management system aims at assisting in homestead rearing of chickens, especially monitoring and acquisition of vital information relating to the bird’s health and egg count. the most significant component of the proposed system is the nest box. it has dimension of approximately 13x13x15 inches, and is a rectangular parallelepiped except for the top face which is sloped for the inner installation design. the sloped top is to discourage other birds from sitting on top of the box. the material of the box is medium density fibre board. mdf has great structural integrity and high ecological compatibility. it has versatility in terms of shaping, high thermal insulation, humidity tolerance and superior dimensional stability. therefore a smart coop is proposed that very much resembles to the nest of the hens. as hens only uses nest to lay eggs and sleeps basically on thin stick or branches. therefore, behaviour of the hens are to be studied and its adaptability will decide the final shape and design of the coop. some key feature of the smart coop has a load sensor, smart temperature detection and control along with a proximity sensor. a unique and application based algorithm is to be designed that uses these above mentioned units to monitor health of the hen along with egg count. it also determines the time for which the hen sits for incubation. beside it can also trace the presence of the hens in the nest and actually track down whether the hen has started the incubation process. this feature may help the business owner to plant their product (egg or chicks) accordingly to their wish and business plan. the temperature control unit continuously monitors the surrounding temperature and maintains the optimal temperature that is helpful for the hen during incubation. the weight monitoring system will also help in studying the health of the hens as during incubation the hens opt for very minimal amount of food. the whole system works from a renewable source of power using solar panel coupled with a battery unit. the smart coop also has a communication channel through which the owner/user can interact with it remotely and can obtained real time data whenever they need without physically visiting the coop. cost effective and reliable setup is what aimed for so that it can be availed by common people. depending upon the size of the business one may opt for desired number of smart coop. the literature survey confirms that no such smart coop is reported that can be used for better productivity of local eggs and chicken.
