Even though drip irrigation system can be proven much more efficient than other irrigation systems since only the root zone of the crop area is irrigated, improper management may lead to waste of water or leaching of soluble chemicals such as nitrates. the goal of proposed irrigation system is to develop irrigation scheduling to make most efficient use of water and energy by applying the right amount of water to the cropland at the right time and in the right place, making sure water is available when the crop needs it. scheduling maximizes irrigation efficiency by minimizing runoff and percolation losses. for effective drip irrigation water monitoring should be done properly. rapid advancements in the electronic technologies is an effective solution for this purpose. the designed automated drip irrigation system consists of 3 blocks. the first part i.e. soil moisture sensing device is used to detect the soil moisture content .next part is a control system which can be a big microprocessor system or a simple microcontroller such as arduino (we are using arduino for our prototype) and third block i.e. irrigation system components which include pump , drip lines, drippers and other small components. project mainly focusses on measuring the soil moisture content and using a water supplying element (such as pump) to maintain the moisture at a desired value and thus making a schedule to maximize irrigation efficiency.
