Normally healthy urine does not contain proteins, but when they appear this indicates some sort of disease or damage to the kidney due to any of the underlying causes. the condition is called ‘proteinuria’. the major diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac diseases and advanced case of pregnancy induced hypertension are the common causes of the proteins in urine. proteinuria, non specifically tells that there is something wrong with the kidneys. kidney diseases do not show adequate symptoms and hence are missed in the initial course and are only diagnosed with advanced disease stage, and many a time reaches a point of no return. a simple urine protein estimation could help in the disease diagnosis and timely treatment hence saving millions of lives. in the urban areas, there are advanced diagnostic labs to perform the tests with accuracy on their advanced auto-analysers, but the patients in the rural community do not have an easy access to these labs for their diagnosis. the only diagnostic device available for urinary protein estimation is the dipsticks which are, as per literature only 64% accurate and reliable. so these patients land up with advanced disease due to improper diagnosis to solve this problem we have developed a smart point of care diagnostic device – scintiglo, for a reliable, accurate, rapid and economical quantitative estimation of proteins in urine. the results on the device are more than 95% accurate and repeatable. each test on scintiglo would cost up to rs. 5 per test and the tests could be done within 2-3 seconds. the device has a smart connectivity to allow data collection and transmission across the internet through a smart-phone.
