Abstract methane clathrate (ch4·5.75h2o), also called methane hydrate, hydromethane, methane ice, fire ice, natural gas hydrate, or gas hydrate, is a solid clathrate compound (more specifically, a clathrate hydrate) in which a large amount of methane is trapped within a crystal structure of water, forming a solid similar to ice.[1] originally thought to occur only in the outer regions of the solar system, where temperatures are low and water ice is common, significant deposits of methane clathrate have been found under sediments on the ocean floors of the earth coal bad methane (cbm) is a very important natural source of energy which is extracted from coal beds and has received significant attention in the recent past world over. india, of late, has started the activities pertaining to the extraction of coal bed methane. in the present communication, various issues pertaining cbm extraction, viz. challenges, technical aspects, economic aspects, commercial development, operational aspects, and environmental 1. introduction coal bed methane also known as coal seam gas in some parts of the world is a form of natural gas which is found deep down the earth surface ranging from 500m-1500m. this natural gas is captured in the structure of coal inside the pores. basically there are two types of pores known as cleats in the structure of coal mainly known as but cleats and face cleats and in one of these only methane gas is trapped in large quantity. extracting coal bed methane from underground coal seams may not have the same significance to modern man, but this source for natural gas certainly seems like a gift to a world in need of clean energy supplies. because today’s oil and gas industry recognizes the value of this unconventional resource, cbm exploration and the main idea in this extraction is saving of formation of solid methane. basically a huge amount of coal bed methane gets solidify in cold regions due to abrupt decrease in pressure which jams the drilling pipes and henceforth creating hindrance in exploration of the gas substantially. 2. concept the basic concept behind formation of solid methane known as methane clathrate is abrupt decrease in pressure. for many thousands and millions of years water table ranging from 500m-1500m exerts a huge amount of pressure on the coal bed and when dewatering is done suddenly there is a abrupt decrease in pressure and which leads to abrupt decrease in temperature of methane gas which solidifies it. s o basically we in this paper try to ensure that the gas doesn’t get solidifies in short we have to maintain the temperature of the 1-loss of huge energy deep down the earth surface in the form of methane clathrate. 2-extremely cold temperature of the region which might cause solidification of coal bed methane during its transportation- which will be tackled by drilling two concentric pipes of different diameter, the space between which will be filled with warm air, using reversible process by a piston. 1-the drilling pipes will be having holes at different levels depending upon the depth of the seams with check- valves to avoid boring repeatedly at different depths for individual seams. 2-significant gas reserves aided by abundant availability of coal seams. 1-separate plant which was needed to separate water and methane worth rs.22 lakhs can now be saved 2-pure methane gas is explored which is much more of cost than presently explored methane gas keywords: coal bed methane, extraction, gas hydrates, solid methane, drilling, reversible processz
