The present invention shows neuronal cells derived from a specific murine (mouse) mesodermal cell line -murine c3h10t1/2 (which is not known to produce neuronal cells) and a cheap and cost-effective method of producing neuronal cells from the said cell-line, under in vitro conditions. murine c3h10t1/2 are treated with walnut oil (cold pressed) which gives rise to neuronal cells after 72 hours of culture under standard culture conditions of incubation at 37 degree celsius and 5% carbon dioxide. after 24 hours of treatment with walnut oil the murine mesenchymal cells, c3h10t1/2 become thin and elongated and show neuronal like appearance on 3rd day. the neural nature of the cells is further confirmed by cresyl violet acetate staining.
