As the environment is becoming more and more polluted, the concentrations of harmful pollutants in the air is reaching harmful levels and causing various health disorders. the main source of these harmful pollutants is the exhaust from vehicles. moreover the rising carbon-dioxide levels are resulting in global warming. as young engineers, we have to find better ways for people to move around than this. hence we decided to make a project called “myo-car" which eliminates these problems. people always look for vehicles which require fewer resources and give more efficiency at a low intial an running cost. myo- car is the kind of the vehicle which satisfies the need of the people and gives the ultimate clean technology to this society. it is a low mass vehicle introduced as the new entrant into the transportation equation. as the name suggests, "myo" meaning muscle and "car" meaning a four seater vehicle, the "myocar" is a four seated, exercise actuated vehicle having a power source (battery). as it is an exercise actuated vehicle, it is possible for one, two, three or four people to operate the actuation/power generation system. it may operated in the electrical power mode or electrical-human power combination mode or even solely on human power mode. the vehicle can also be used as a mini, exercise based human electrical power station. also incorporated in the vehicle are devices which enable it to harness energy from available natural resources such as sunlight and wind, convert it into electrical energy and store it in batteries to be utilized when needed. the mechanism incorporated in the vehicle for human exercise is quite different from the bicycle type mechanism where only thigh and calf exercise is involved which does not give a full body workout. hence in our design a rowing like motion is used to give a full body workout. as the vehicle does not comprise of any engine, cooling system, differential etc. like conventional cars, it’s very silent, the weight of the vehicle is reduced dramatically and also the complexity of design is low, which in turn reduces the cost. this vehicle is 100% ecofriendly, sustainable and non conventional. the key distinguishing factor of the myo-car from other electric cars available in the market is that all electric cars available in the market are charged using electricity that is being produced by burning fossil fuels in power stations and hence lead to pollution though not directly like in combustion-engine cars. hence essentially there is no appreciable difference between internal combustion engine cars and ordinary electric cars in terms of pollution. unlike ordinary electric cars the myo-car doesn’t utilise electricity produced in power plants but solely relies on the human power and other sources like sunlight and wind. our vehicle is also ensures safety with a sophisticated and robust structural design. the vehicle even produces continuous power with a photovoltaic roof to harvest the ever abundant solar energy and a unique micro turbine system which harnesses wind energy when the vehicle moves; thus increasing the efficiency of the vehicle. the rowing motion is converted into rotary motion by a crank mechanism that in turn is linked to a shaft that drives the alternator which produces electricity which later is used to drive the motors that are coupled to the wheels. this car is the ideal substitute for all taxis on the roads and can even be used by common people as personal locomotives. this will cut down vehicular emissions by a large proportion and also greatly reduce the noise. as the vehicle is cheap and has no additional fuel costs, even poor people can buy them and run them as taxis which will result in higher income hence improving their economic condition. also the people who don’t have access to electricity at their homes can use the stored energy as a lighting source. this will help more children study and hence improve the social condition of the people. in urban environments the myo-car like a personal gym will ensure the physical fitness and well being of the users. hence this car is one solution to a large number of problems. it addresses generic problems that affect everyone and even targeted problems that affect a specific group of people.
