Hydro Power Generation From Irrigation System
Project Description :

Synopsis introduction: hydro power is derived from the energy of falling water or fast running water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes. since ancient times, hydro power from many kinds of water mills has been used as a renewable energy source for irrigation and the operation of various mechanical devices . in 19th century hydro power become source of generating electricity. hydro power a form of energy .a renewable resource. hydropower provides about 96 percent of the renewable energy in the united states. other renewable resources include geothermal, wave power, tidal power, wind power, and solar power. hydroelectric powerplants do not use up resources to create electricity nor do they pollute the air, land, or water, as other powerplants may. hydroelectric power has played an important part in the development of this nation's electric power industry. both small and large hydroelectric power developments were instrumental in the early expansion of the electric power industry. hydroelectric power comes from flowing water. winter and spring runoff from mountain streams and clear lakes. water, when it is falling by the force of gravity, can be used to turn turbines and generators that produce electricity. methodology: this project is aimed to generate electricity from water pressure of the pumps used in irrigated agriculture fields. in irrigation system, motors are used to pump water. this water is used to generate electricity. we simulated this with locating penstocks near the bottom ( higher pressure) and middle (lower pressure) of a 5 gallon bucket. our hypothesis is that the penstock at the bottom with greater pressure will = higher energy output. we matched the inflow of water with the outflow and also measured and maintained the fall or “head” from the penstock to the turbine, so water pressure alone was measured. head, or the pressure of falling water can be created by vertically locating the turbine well below the intake of the penstock. components: • 0.5 hp motor with water sufficient water head • turbine • generator advantage:-  less maintenance.  the field water is used for irrigation purpose  environmental friendly.  simple in design.  no hazardous to health . applications: • used in agriculture field to generate electricity. future scope:- by inserting the external non conventional sources like wind power and solar power we can generate additional electricity. reference: [1] https://www.googlesciencefair.com/en/ [2] v.k. mehtha.” electrical power system “.
