In all major industries a lot of parameters have to be measured, indicated and recorded for successful control and operation of the plant. das (data acquisition system) deals with the measurement of such parameters or properties. in a das, analog data is generally acquired and converted to digital form for the purpose of processing, transmission, display and storage. data may be transmitted over long and short distances. we have developed a real-time, wired plus wireless das that will acquire data from sensors which will then be transmitted to a pc base station (after being suitably processed) where we have a graphical user interface (gui) based data acquisition software. hybrid wired and wireless data acquisition system has been designed to utilize the advantages of both wired and wireless technologies. wireless data acquisition is not a new idea; however, by using bluetooth technology we have tried to eliminate the short comings of other wireless data acquisition systems. as an application, we have selected centrifuge as the equipment which will utilize wireless das (as well as wired das) to determine whether the centrifugation process of a sample has been completed or not. a centrifuge is a piece of equipment that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis, applying a force perpendicular to the axis. department of instrumentation & control engineering | scet, surat 4 since the wireless das will help to determine the time required to complete the centrifugation process it will be helpful for research applications where time required for centrifugation process to get completed for various types of samples is to be determined. the data related to centrifugation will be stored as well as displayed in the data acquisition software and hence it can be studied. now, data acquisition from a centrifuge (which is a rotating equipment) will only be practical when the das is wireless because a wired das will be highly inconvenient due to the rotational nature of the equipment. this is the main reason why only the das developed by us can be utilized for this purpose.
