In the modern world, robots have become a key technology in various fields and marked a permanent footprint. the objective of this project is to design and develop a robotic arm that is controlled using human hand gestures. a robotic arm is a robotic manipulator, usually programmable to perform the desired functions. robots are created to reduce the efforts of a human and ease the work. robotic arms are mostly remote controlled by buttons or panels and sometimes in batch process they are autonomous. the usage of panel boards or control sticks includes a lot of hard wiring and subject to malfunction. it also induces some stress on the operators. the aim is to reduce the bulk of wiring in the robotic arms and reduce the effort and number of operators in controlling the robotic arm operations manually. some of the major chemical industries like cosmetic manufacturing, paint manufacturing and biosynthesis laboratory etc., which deals with hazardous environment due to the chemicals and other bio substances, thus we usually go for robotic arm. these can also be used as pick & place robot, a cleaning robot in chemical industries where a human does not need to directly involve in the process of cleaning the chemicals and also for coating underground tanks. in this project we use a robotic arm which is controlled by labview through image processing technique, which requires a camera for capturing the image. an ni myrio interface kit is used which has a dual core cortex a9, xilinx fpga simulated input output kit. using these components the arm which is made of any size, can be controlled depending on their application area. the arm moves in a 2 dimension i.e. in x-axis and y-axis with the help of intensity of light. thus light is the template which is used in controlling the arm by gesture of the controller. the proposed methodology have implemented a system through which user can give the commands to the robotic arm with the help of a camera which captures the objects gesture movement. the robotic arm can be used where a human feel he or she may not directly involve with substance or hazardous materials in the industries.
