Development Of Double Cage Induction Motor For Electric Drive Technology Applications
Project Description :

Abstract squirrel cage motors are the most commonly used induction motors, but the main drawback in them is their poor starting torque due to low rotor resistance. the starting torque of a squirrel cage induction motor only 1.5 times of full load torque and current drawn is 5 to 7 times of full load current. here rotor resistance value cannot be varied because rotor conductors are short circuited by end rings but in slip ring induction motor resistance value can be varied using rheostat but it has the disadvantage of high cost and difficulty in construction. in order to conquer this above drawback, we are going to double cage induction motor. it has two cages, outer cage and inner cage. inner bar has wide cross sectional area and outer bar has small cross sectional area made up of high resistive material to improve high starting torque at initial stage of motor because rotor resistance is directly proportional to the torque. in this study, the starting characteristics of double cage induction motors were analysed based on the rotor materials and shapes using a finite element method to provide design data suitable for different user purposes and capacities. the various losses in induction motor is calculated and the effect of rotor materialsand the air gap length on the performance of this motor are studied and also analysing temperature loss the main drawback of double cage induction motor. features: • optimized design. • used in steel rolling machines. • used in the electrical drive technology application.
