Development Of Control Logic For Proto-type Cryoline (ptcl) Test Boxes Using Programmable Logic Controller (plc)

Test infrastructure for the ptcl test at 4.5 k temperature level has been developed at iter-india laboratory. helium gas at 300 k is compressed up to 7 bar (a) in the screw-type, oil filled compressor. mixture of helium and oil is separated using oil removal system. 80 k cold box has been used to cool the helium gas from 300 k to 80 k using liquid nitrogen as coolant. test box-a is responsible for the interfacing with ptcl and liquid helium tank and dedicated implementation of ptcl test control logic. test box-b and c provide the termination with control of flow split up between main cryoline and branch cryoline. ptcl test at 4.5 k level will be performed considering following operating modes (i) cool down from 300 k to 80 k temperature (ii) cool down from 80 k to 4.5 k temperature (iii) steady-state measurement of ptcl (iv) thermal cycling between 4.5 k to 80 k temperature (v) warm up from 4.5 k to 80 k temperature (vi) warm up from 80 k to 300 k temperature control system for the ptcl test consists of programmable logic controller (plc) of siemens s7-300 series along with supervisory control and data acquisition system (scada) from siemens. present project work includes study and understanding of the test infrastructure facility. the details of work have been summarized below: (i) study and understanding of process requirements for the ptcl test along with test infrastructure. (ii) study and understanding of process flow diagrams for the ptcl test. (iii) development of plc programming logic for the test box – a, b and c considering all modes of operation (iv) development of human-machine interface (hmi) for the test box –a, b and c using siemens scada (v) simulation of developed control logic using the plc simulator
