Design Of Robotic Manipulator Using Magnetorheological Fluids For Handling Soft And Fragile Objects
Project Description :

Magnetorheological fluids and their use in industrial sector are gaining popularity to handle objects as dampeners, shock absorbers, in machine foundations etc. it is used in either way as energy dissipators or propagator of energy. so also, permanent magnets of magnetic alloys of different compounds of elements are in use with varying sizes and shapes. such magnets are designed and manufactured for achieving maximum flux density (and thereby maximum pull force) with small sizes. the above two materials have been extensively researched for their different characteristics in their own right. here in this project it has been used to handled soft and delicate objects like fruits for `pick and placing’ with the help of mr fluids excited by permanent magnets in the gripper fingers of robotics arm in such a way that the handled objects do not undergo damages or deformations. the contributive part of the researcher lies in using the results of the software (ansys & femm) to calibrate the potential pull forces of the magnets in location specific positions. this helped in achieving the handling of the objects by their skin friction exerted in horizontal thrust direction so that the objects do not experience any deformation or defacing. the maximum potential of the magnets used is 10.5kgf pull force. the weight range of the objects handled is 65g to 225g.the fabricated equipment can handle a max weight of 746g.
