This project relates to the gears which are used for transmitting torque for various applications. it includes the design of a non-standard gear profile which would allow for a pure rolling contact.this further helps in the reduction of friction between the contacting pair and an increase in the overall efficiency. a self-contained unit i.e. a gear box is provided where the gears of the non-standard profile are installed and tested for the torque transmitted and are compared with standard profile gears. the most important quantity of a rotating machine is the mechanical power and it can be measured by measuring the torque on the rotating shaft at the input and output. for the standard profile curve there is a separate center for each distinguished point on the curve, whereas for the non-standard profile, the curve is approximated as a part of the circle where each point has a common center. in this thesis, we present a non-standard gear profile i.e. circular profile for increased torque transmitting efficiency.
