Superficial floss is one of the wasteful materials which are removed before processing the cocoon into linen fibers and novelty items. the cocoon with floss disturbs the mechanical processes which results in slowing the operation, increasing the wastage of material, labor and time. in order to increase the cocoon products production, cocoon deflossing machine is hereby proposed. the objective of our project is to automate the deflossation process and to increase the quality and efficiency of the deflosser. the automated cocoon deflossing machine is designed. it is composed of the following components: conveyor belt, deflosser rod, motors, motor driver, micro controller, encoders and the power transmission system. using the conveyor belt the cocoons are taken to the deflossing rod of thickness 6 mm, the unreelable silk floss gets wound on the rod. the entire process is controlled by using micro controller. the deflosser rod is rotated in counterclockwise direction, to get the best deflossing efficiency thereby increasing the capacity of the machine. as a result, the proposed deflossing machine reduces the manpower and consumption of time. the unreelable silk floss from the rod is removed easily which fetches high price in the market. thus, it can be said that india can take up the challenge of production of high quality silk in required quantity to meet the domestic requirement as well as to earn valuable foreign exchange.
