Areca nut is the seed of the areca palm (areca catechu), which grows in much of the tropical pacific, asia, and parts of east africa. the nut is covered with husk and separation of the nut is the most-difficult post-harvest operations relevant to areca nut. traditional method of removing the areca nut husk is using knife and hammer. the main disadvantage of these methods • require experience • possibility of nut breakage • cause injury to the hands in this mechanized era, the innovators and the government are focusing on large scale machineries especially used in large scale production unit. but the small scale farmers are struggling to do their farming without any machinery. due the lack of small scale machineries, we are suggesting a manually operated dry areca nut husking tool for small scale husking (especially for below 10kg areca nut).the husking tool conceived shall have an upright twin-wedge assembly; one wedge stationary and the other movable. in its idle state, both the wedges remain together by a gravitational force. it is on to this that the areca nut is impaled. then, the movable wedge is moved linearly away from the stationary and husking will occur (which is same as the coconut husking tool).
