Retaining structures are the most important part of the civil engineering structures .our project consideration is on gravity mass retaining gabion wall . we have undergone through its civil engineering applications and properties . gabion wall is used at the thaltej underpass as the correct alternative of retaining structures viable . it is the most feasible option as it reduces the economy in comparison to other retaining structures as to minimize the price of the project .in detail study we have gone through its construction methodology which is conventionally done at the site rather than that used in other countries with the help of modern equipments. here, we consider its limitation on the basis of its construction practise undergoing at the site . the workers are not supervised in intervals which leads in wrong practise of construction . due to the rocks used are not correctly prepared in round and angular shape it results in damage of the wire baskets and are not settled properly in the gabion boxes. hence, in the last semester. we have undergone the above analysis based on construction of gabion wall. hence, our main aim is to provide a safe, flexible ,economical, environmentally favourable and socially feasible. gabions wall with waste materials obtained from the demolition of the construction materials to obtain a stable gabion retaining wall. now, in this semester we have considered to design of gabion wall with the waste materials of building construction by demolition or renovation. every month around 300 metric tonnes of waste is generated which is surveyed data amount conducted by ahmadabad municipal waste obtained value.. the waste we are going to consider are concrete blocks, ,pebbles, paver blocks and bricks with flyash. due to the waste generated becoming a menance to social and natural environment this a best way to bring out positive outcome of waste. in this study ,the intention is to find that the materials listed above can be used as a filling units in place of rocks in the retaining structure gabion wall which we are going to consider in the design. we are going to check the compressive strength and their durability of the filling materials used and compared to the rubble (black trap)used in the gabion wall. this application of waste material gabion is considered in the north and south of srilanka where there is a number of waste generated due to war and those buildings have to be renowated which we have taken as a idea for using waste. we expect the outcome of design would be able to bear the load of soil and the live load on the service road by the waste material filling in the boxes or gabions at the underpass gabion wall of thaltej sg highway, ahmedabad.
