A Cost Effective Alternative Of Distribution Transformer : Firefly

Transformers are the most important components in power generation and distribution channels. a lot of money has been invested to improvise the system, yet there are many issues with the usage of transformers. the issues are the hindrance to 24x7 supply of power, especially in rural and remote areas where any fault or malfunction in transformer take days to set it on the job again. population living in remote or secluded geographical areas usually suffer from lack of electrical maintenance. the major issues with transformers are portability, bulkiness, need of coolant, frequent maintenance, reliability, buying and maintenance cost, heat or copper losses and its vulnerability to faulty monitoring, over voltage and weather conditions. the other problem which we aim to target at the user end distribution transformer is a circuit switching relay, which currently needs manual assistance, thus less efficient, to reconnect to the system after isolation due to overvoltage. we propose to replace the distribution transformers with our product named “firefly”. the firefly is a power electronics based step down ac to ac converter and has the capability of tackling all the above mentioned problems with transformers. for the issue of manually controlled circuit breaker switches, we aim to make an automatic system which can be implemented with relays and are remotely controlled using app which will be used by electricity department worker. the firefly is capable of replacing the conventionally used transformers. the firefly is comparatively portable, reachable, and smaller in size and cost efficient. the firefly app can be used to remotely and automatically control the circuit breakers which will save a lot of time and will help in achieving continues power transmission.
