Project Description :

Concept of design: person sitting closer to ground or steps has maximum stability; a person can climb stairs in sitting position by dragging the body weight upward or downward on hands. it is a simplest and safest mechanism of climbing stairs without any support of external device. mimicking the same mechanism with mechanical benefit via ratchets system and braking system results to an efficient and safe solution for climbing stairs for the user. a y shaped wheel is designed for better grip and optimum braking for climbing up and down. an attempt is being made to fabricate and demonstrate a stair climbing manual wheel chair and the results were satisfactory. the initial prototype has been tested under various circumstances like step sizes of stairs, people with different weight (58 kg-89kg) and it has shown satisfactory results. as per national building code specifications for step sizes of staircase of public building vardaan can climb all the public stairs.
