Novel Stand-alone 1-phase Ac Generator For Rural Electrification Using Renewable Energy
Project Description :

This work concerns a virgin effort on the design and development of a 5kw, 50hz, 230v, 4-pole, 1-phase two winding self excited induction generator (seig), for off grid power generation in rural/ remote areas using locally available renewable sources such as bio, small hydro and wind. it should be compact, economical, brushless and maintenance free and meet the required performance. we can not make use of 1-phase induction motors as generators due to unsatisfactory performance. the available range of single phase induction motors is upto 2.2kw only. thus, we need to work out on new design including stampings suitable for 5kw single phase output. since such a design exercise is undertaken for the first time, we have to improvise using available machine design tools combining with the practical limitations of manufacture imposed by the industry. based on this design a prototype has been fabricated with the help of an industry and tested for suitability. the design procedure for development of a prototype model has following steps: 1) theoretical design analysis/sizing of the machine, 2) work on machine design tool with above input, 3) get the data of windings, fundamental mmf, harmonics and equivalent circuit parameters, 4) calculate theoretical performance of above designed model and validate the prototype, 5) develop a prototype machine with the help of an industry, 6) test the above machine.
